When you are at the slopes, you probably see a lot of people who are jumping and spining around during their rides. It is not as easy as it may seem- you might not be able to jump high enough or lose the balance. Why? Because your ollie isn't being done properly.
The ollie is probably one of the most important tricks. It is the base from which every other trick is made from. Master the ollie and make your snowboarding much more fun!!
How to Ollie:
You can practice the ollie when you are either standing or riding. If you practice while riding, make sure that your board is set straight.
[1] Put your weight to the tail of your board by leaning your body towards the back.
[2] Try to hang on the board, standing on the tail, and do not fall. You should be able to feel your board bending. Lift up your forefoot so that you can put more weight on the tail.
[3] Now, bounce off by kicking with your hind foot. You can bounce higher if you could bend the board more.
[4] Once you see the idea of how it works, practice over and over and you will get the timing of lifting and bouncing.
[5] When you jump high enough, pull your feet close to your chest in the air. This gives you the balance and enables you to land on both feet.
[6] Land with both feet and bend your knees to absorb the shock.
It is important to note that the ollie is not a jump that you kick up with both feet together just like normal jumps. Balance and timing are crucial for the ollie.
